About Bareilly College
Bareilly College (also known as BCB — Bareilly College Bareilly) is the oldest and most prestigious government degree college in Bareilly, Uttar Pradesh. Founded in 1837 by Sir Charles Metcalfe, a British administrator, during the colonial period, it stands as one of the oldest educational institutions in North India with over 185 years of unbroken academic legacy.
The college is a government-aided autonomous institution affiliated to Mahatma Jyotiba Phule Rohilkhand University (MJPRU) and holds NAAC B+ Grade accreditation from the National Assessment and Accreditation Council. Its degrees are fully recognised by the University Grants Commission (UGC).
Over nearly two centuries, Bareilly College has produced distinguished alumni — freedom fighters, IAS/IPS officers, judges, politicians, professors, and national scientists who have contributed immensely to public life.
